Ronaldinho Has Cars & Snooker Table Seized

Ronaldinho’s ongoing dispute with Brazilian authorities has led to the Barcelona legend having luxury vehicles and other personal possessions being seized during a raid on his home.

The World Cup winner and his brother Roberto were convicted of illegal construction in February 2015 and ordered to pay 8.5 million Brazilian Real (£1.7m).

Along with company Reno Constructions and Incorporations Ltd., they were found to have built a sugar mill with a fishing platform and a pier in a permanent preservation area on Lake Guaíba without permission.

Failure to meet the demands of the state has resulted in Ronaldinho having his passport seized and bank accounts investigated – with a balance of just 24.63 Brazilian Real (£5) discovered .

While that would suggest that the 38-year-old is short on funds, that is not the case and the District Attorney's Office (MP-RS) are in the process of trying to prove as much.

Ronaldinho is considered to have the money to clear his debt, but is refusing to part with it.

Casillas Rues Real Madrid Row with Mourinho

Iker Casillas has revealed his regret at not confronting Jose Mourinho during the pair's fractious relationship at Real Madrid.

Mourinho spent three years in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2010 and 2013, a period which delivered one league title and one Copa del Rey.

Although that La Liga-winning side racked up 100 points and scored 121 goals en route to dethroning Barcelona in 2012, Mourinho was far from a universally popular figure in the Spanish capital.

That included a bust-up with Casillas, whose close friendship with his Spain colleagues at Barca reportedly angered Mourinho.

The goalkeeper was dropped midway through the 2012-13 campaign with Diego Lopez preferred in his place, while rumours began to circulate that Casillas was the source of stories leaked to the media regarding disagreements between Mourinho and key figures within the squad.

"He was brought in to compete with Barcelona and brought moments of great tension and that Madridismo that I mentioned that I don't like came out, there was a limit that he went to with me that I didn't want to go to," Casillas old Universo Valdano channel Vamos.

"The third year wasn't all good, although we won La Liga and it seems that there were many people whose relationship was shaken.

"It wasn't good for him, nor for me nor for the club. I think if it happened all over again, I would have taken the bull by the horns and faced Mourinho."

The club remain in talks with David de Gea, Ashley Young, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera over extending their stays at Old Trafford, while Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Andreas Pereira and Matteo Darmian face uncertain futures.

Arsenal Were in Decline😳 Under Wenger : Emery

Unai Emery has told Marca that Arsenal were in decline when he took over, having lost their defensive structure under Arsene Wenger.

Emery became coach in May after Wenger ended his 22-year reign, inheriting a team that finished sixth in the Premier League last season, and said his predecessor's focus on attacking football had led to defensive weaknesses.

"Before Wenger arrived, Arsenal celebrated the 1-0 wins and were based on defensive solidity," he said.

"With Arsene, they became an attacking team, with players who were good on the ball, and the perfect combination came with The Invincibles [when an unbeaten Arsenal won the 2003-04 Premier League].

"But with time, you can only take care of technique and attacking freedom, losing your defensive structure. What I want to do is unite the two and become more competitive. Arsenal were falling. We had to stop that and start to lift them.

"These days, it's very difficult for a coach to last 22 years. The chairs had to be moved in all sectors of the club. Not because of previous negligence, but to motivate everyone again -- to shake it up, to sweep things under the carpet, to open the windows, all positive things."

Liverpool's Jordan Henderson Fit to Face Watford

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is expected to be available to face Watford on Saturday.

Henderson missed England's dramatic Nations League win over Croatia on Sunday as a precaution after struggling with a hamstring injury in the build-up to the game.

However, the midfielder has trained as normal at Melwood this week ahead of Liverpool's trip to Vicarage Road.

Henderson struggled with a tight hamstring at the World Cup earlier this year and the injury resurfaced again last month, with the Liverpool midfielder forced off against Huddersfield.

He subsequently missed four games for Liverpool before returning to action as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 win over Fulham prior to the international break.

ASUU Appeals to Oyo, Osun to Pay Members 10 Months’ Salary Arrears in LAUTECH

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sokoto State Zonal Office has called on the Osun and Oyo State Governments to as a matter of urgency pay the 10 months salary arrears owed its members at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho or face what the union described as mass action.
LAUTECH is owned by both Osun and Oyo State Governments, but the university, according to ASUU, is facing numerous predicaments ranging from non-release of subventions, non-payment of promotional arrears and lack of constant salary payment by the two state governments.
ASUU therefore admonished the two governments to, without further delay, commence the full implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) endorsed recently on the welfare of its members in the institution and the deplorable condition of the university, among others.
The Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Jamilu Shehu, told journalists in Katsina, on Friday that the union was optimistic that the MoU, if implemented, would address the “rot and decay” currently facing the university.
He said: “ASUU, Sokoto zone strongly condemns inertia on the part of the two states to honourably implement the MoU. The implications for educational standards, excellence and professionalism are gloomy.
“The infrastructure in the university is also in a sorry state, unbefitting of an ivory tower. This quagmire forced the governing council of the university to resort to the only available option of relying on Internal Generated Revenue (IGR).
“This intolerable situation forced the academic staff of the institution to embark on strike that halted academic activities for about 10 months. The strike was called off following the signing of MoU between the two governments and the union but the two state governments have so far not fulfilled the terms of the MoU.”
The Sokoto State Zonal Office of ASUU comprises Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto; Kebbi State University of Science and Technology; Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, Katsina; Sokoto State University; and Federal University, Dutsin-Ma.

5 mistakes that can stop you from gaining university admission in Nigeria.

5 mistakes that can stop you from gaining university admission in Nigeria.

To gain admission into any university in Nigeria, you must avoid these five mistakes.
Prospective candidates who have passed their Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) and the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination (UTME) might wonder why they are not admitted despite their good grades and UTME scores.

There are many reasons why students miss admission every year. Many people might think university managements are not fair and transparent in their admission procedures, but the truth is, every institution has its admission requirements and criteria .

1. O Level result combination
Some schools in Nigeria only accepts one O level result from its admission candidates. So, if you are choosing a school like this for admission, you are expected to use one O level result.
Candidates seeking admission into a tertiary institution will either use his/her WAEC, NECO result or combination of both. However, there have been questions on whether some universities accept a combination of NECO and WAEC results whereas schools like UI, UNILAG etc don't give admission to those who combine results.

2. Wrong O level subjects combination
Another mistake that candidate seeking admission to tertiary institutions do make is the wring combination of O level subjects. You have to know the O level subject.
For instance, if you want to study Biochemistry in the university, you are expected to have at least five credits in your O level result. And this credits must include English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology. In some schools, the fifth course has to be Physics while in others, any other science subject is allowed as the fifth subject.

3. Age
The official age for admission in Nigerian universities is 16. Before a candidate can be admitted, he/she must have reached the AGE of sixteen (16) before he/she would be considered for admission in any tertiary institution in Nigeria.

4. False state of origin claim
Falsifying your state of origin is always an issue in state universities where indigenes get bursary and subsidised tuition. Tertiary institutions like
Lagos State University (LASU) take this seriously.

5. Cut-off mark
There are cut-off mark set upon giving admission in Universities in Nigeria. But the issue is that there are different cut-off marks. For instance, UI cut-off mark could be 200 for Jamb and that of any other University could be 180.
Candidate seeking admission should try to know the cut-off mark for the institution he/she has chosen.

Buhari commiserates with rainstorm and fire victims in Bauchi

President Muhammadu Buhari has condoled with the people of Bauchi over last Saturday’s rainstorm which claimed over 6 lives and destroyed properties worth millions of naira in Bauchi metropolis.
President Buhari was in Bauchi State to commiserate with the government and people of the State, particularly, the victims of the recent devastating windstorm as well as the fire incident that razed the Azare Central Market, one of the most popular markets in the North.
The president, on Thursday, in the company of the governor, Bar. Muhammed Abubakar, paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu over the loss the state suffered at the weekend.
Speaking at the emir palace, the President condoled with the emir and assured that he will do everything in his power to ameliorate the plights of the affected people.
“I am here to commiserate with you over the loss you recorded during the weekend. I want to assure you that the federal government will stand with you through this trying time.

FG sensitive to human rights, dignity – NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday said the Federal Government was mindful of the protection of rights and dignity of the citizens.
Mr Tony Ojukwu, the Executives Secretary of the commission, said this in Yola at a 3-day Mid-Term Review Meeting of the IDP Protection Monitoring Project for North- East.
NHRC is in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on the protection monitoring of refugees’ rights in the insurgency ravaged communities in the north east.
The executive secretary said government was committed to ensuring that rights of citizens were respected, adding that violation of rights of citizens was always met with stringent sanctions.
He said the NHRC would not relent in its mandate to ensure that violators of human rights were punished, adding that such prompt actions were deterring flagrant abuses in the country.
Ojukwu however said the mid-term review of humanitarian operations in the north-east was done to identify challenges and probable workable solutions to them.
“It is imperative that we all come to the round table to review what has been done so far and what is left to be done to close identified gaps and challenges’’, he said.
The executive secretary said the meeting would enable the partners to outline corrective actions to ensure that the project was on track to achieve maximum results.
“Mid-term review is a mandatory requirement of the NHRC and the UNHCR on IDP protection monitoring project.
“The review meeting is used as a tool for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the project as well as to measure performance against output.
“It also assesses the progress towards results, identifies risks to sustainability and emphasises supportive recommendations,’’ he said.
Ojukwu said the ten targeted states in 2015 for the project had reduced to six in 2016.
He however, said that the project had further reduced that number to include only Adamawa Yobe and Borno.
Mr Ahmed Teejan-Cole, the Resident Officer of the UNHCR in Yola, said the review would identify and observe causes of rights violations in the areas.
“The members of the team would identify with IDPs who are depressed and with those that have been put in the dark which is the trends globally now,’’ he said.
The UNHCR official restated that the global population of refugees stood at 25.4 million, adding that the resources allocated for humanitarian projects had dwindled.
He urged the monitors to utilise the resources at their disposal to achieve more results.
The monitors in the IDP protection monitoring project were drawn from the three states listed for visitation.

Re-Elect Buhari And Regret, APC Chieftain To Nigerians

Suspended Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has told President Muhammadu Buhari that Nigerians may end up in regret and despair for voting him into office.
Frank said this in an open letter he addressed to the President.
In the letter, the former mouth piece of the ruling party said the president must do more in obeying the rule of law and stop attacking those he sees as opposition to Gus administration.
Part of Frank’s letter entitled ‘June 12 and the Burden of good governance’ reads, Mr. President, having been a lone voice in criticizing the activities of your administration, despite being a member of the APC, many will wonder what the true intent of this Open Letter may convey, but be rest assured sir, that only those who mean well for this country will speak up when wrong is being painted as right.

“The CHANGE mantra upon which this administration was voted into power massively by Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religious and social affiliations, is fast eroding away and I’m afraid, sir, that if nothing is done to Right the Wrong, then the Hopes and Aspirations which had ushered in a brighter tomorrow will end up in Regret and Despair.
“That I have decided to speak up against the current ills in the system attest to the fact that, it is only when people speak up that TrueChange will eventually occur. The resilience and belief in the June 12 Struggle attest to the fact that those who fought for democracy in Nigeria believed in the truest meaning of democracy in all its ramifications.

“A country where the RULE OF LAW, FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND ASSOCIATION, UPHOLDING THE RIGHTSOF EVERY CITIZEN AND ABOVE ALL RESPECT FOR FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS was and is the very pillar upon which Chief MKO ABIOLA and several others paid the ultimate price with their lives.
“Anything short of this will amount to MILITOCRACY or DICTATORSHIP as itwere. The lack of adherence to these social rights, I must admit, are very prevalent in this administration and seems to be growing larger by the day.
“These ills are reminiscent of and a sad reminder of the Junta days, with many regretting their actions of voting the APC into power. It will be pertinent, Mr. President sir, to proceed on a personal fact finding mission to the Nigerian streets, irrespective of bias, to find out the true reflections and opinions of Nigerians toward your administration.”

Man kills mother over love affair with her sister

A 22 year old man identified as Agaezichi Ogbonna, has allegedly killed his mother over a love affair with her sister at Akpaa Mbato community, Obingwa council area of Abia State.
Family sources told Vanguard that Agaezichi aged 22, was having a love affair with his mother’s sister, but his mother, Blessing, warned against the relationship, describing it as a taboo in Igbo land.
However, on Saturday, the deceased reportedly met the two ‘love birds’ at home and warned them to desist from the love affairs, but Agaezichi pounced on his mother and beat her to death.
When they realized that the woman had died, the two ‘love birds’ fled, but Agaezichi was arrested by youths who handed him over to the soldiers stationed at the community.
“The boy was having a love affair with his mother’s sister. The love affair has been going on for a long time. But his mother kept warning him against it. Everybody in this village has been warning the boy against the love affair because it is a taboo in Igbo land. Any time his mother warns him to stop the love affair with her sister, Agaezichi will beat the woman.
“Yesterday, his mother saw him with the girl and warned about the consequences of their love affair and Agaezich rained blows on the woman. She fell to the ground and died. When they saw, she has died, they ran away but Agaezichi was arrested by some youths while his girlfriend escaped.”

EFCC/FBI raid internet fraudsters’ bases in Nigeria, arrest of 30 suspects...

By Soni Daniel, Abuja
In a bid to checkmate rising cases of internet fraud that has rob millions of unsuspecting Nigerians and foreigners of millions Naira, the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in collaboration with the American Federal Bureau of Investigation has arrested no fewer than 30 fraudsters engaged in the illicit trade.

The arrest of the suspects mostly in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial hub, followed a raid on internet fraudsters by operatives of the two agencies, hauling in no fewer than 25 digital devices used in the nefarious activity.

Among the tools of operations used by the criminally-minded elements, which were retrieved by the anti-graft agencies included mobile phones and computers.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, who confirmed the raids, said, they were carried out between May 23 and June 7, 2017.
Wilson said, “The joint operation was carried out as part of an exercise code named ‘Operation Wire Wire’ following months of surveillance to identify the suspects and their locations.

“The suspects, who are all linked to business email compromise, have made useful statements while documents recovered from them are being analysed.
Business email compromise is a sophisticated scam scheme which targets businesses involved with funds transfer as means of payment.

The perpetrators routinely compromise communication between the parties and change the bank details of the receiver of funds and send emails to the party expected to do the transfer, purporting to be the genuine receiver with the changed account details.

Court sacks Nigerian senator

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the immediate sack of a senator, Atai Aidoko, as the member representing Kogi East.
The court presided over by judge, Gabriel Kolawole, ruled that Mr Aidoko was wrongly presented as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the December 2014 Primaries conducted by the PDP.
Following the presentation of Mr Aidoko as the party’s flag bearer, Mr Aidoko’s challenger, Isaac Alfa, began a legal battle for the nullification of Mr Aidoko’s election.
An appeal court had ordered parties to return to the trial court to allow it determine the rightful owner of the suit, thus rendering the seat vacant.
However, Mr Aidoko refused vacating the office and has appeared repeatedly at Senate plenaries since then.
On Wednesday, the court ordered the PDP and Mr Aidoko to pay Mr Alfa N750,000 each.

Just in: I Won’t Be Part of June 12 Celebration, Nwosu Writes Buhari

The Chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission, Humphrey Nwosu, has disclosed that he would not be part of the June 12 celebration “due to circumstances beyond my control”
In a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, he said he was outside the country and would not be making the team that Buhari had invited to the occasion to honour the late Chief MAKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the June 12, 1993 election, which Nwosu presided over before it was annulled by then military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.
President Buhari had invited Nwosu, among other prominent Nigerians to witness the award ceremony and bestowing of national honours on Abiola, his running mate, Babagana Kiginbe and late human rights activist, Gani Fawehinmi on Tuesday.
Nevertheless, Nwosu paid glowing tribute to Buhari for recognising June 12 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day and for honouring the memory of Abiola.
In a letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, on Monday, Nwosu said the conferment of national honours on Abiola and Kingibe, “will rekindle the national consciousness of all Nigerians for a better nation.”
The letter signed by one Lawrence Ojabo, Director of Information, reads: “I thank His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and the Federal Government of Nigeria for recognising June 12 as Democracy Day and also honouring the winner of June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief M.K.O. Abiola.
“Indeed, June 12, 1993 marked a turning point in Nigeria’s tortuous journey towards a democratic polity. It is an honour to the very hard-working men and women of the defunct National Electoral Commission under my leadership at this long awaited recognition. I humbly commend this action by the President.
“Undoubtedly, the democratic system of governance is the best especially for the multi ethnic nation like ours. I thank you for building on the foundation which my team and I laboured strenuously to establish and actualise on June 12, 1993. It is our hope that expanding the frontiers of democracy of which all the people of Nigeria, regardless of ethnic group, will provide economic, social and developmental benefits that will certainly make Nigeria a great nation not only in Africa but across the world.
“Certainly, the scheduled event on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 will rekindle the national consciousness of all Nigerians for a better Nation. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control I will not be present at the investiture ceremony as I am outside the country,” he said.

BREAKING: FG withdraws Security aides, Orders arrest of Ranking APC Chieftain

Information reaching the PoliticsNGR newsdesk this afternoon reveals that the Police security aides attached to an APC chieftain and Deputy Publicity Secretary, Timi Frank have allegedly been withdrawn.
In an Open letter made available to PoliticsNGR, Mr Frank revealed that his aides were withdrawn and a warrant for his immediate arrest has been issued. Read the full letter below;
“It has become imperative for me to use this medium to bring to the attention of the general public, as well as members of the international community that on Wednesday 6th June 2018, the Federal Government ordered the withdrawal of my police security aides. Even though no reason has been given for this sudden action by the police authorities, I believe that it is connected with my fight to preserve the nation’s democracy by speaking out against anti-democratic tendencies and clamouring for adherence to the rule of law under the present administration.
I also have it on good authority that a directive has been given for my immediate arrest and detention. It has also come to my knowledge that a frontline Minister in the present administration is going round media houses and online media and threatening them to either stop publishing and airing my views on national issues or face sanctions from the government.
Recall that in recent weeks, I have caused four open letters to be published in major national newspapers. In one of the letters, I passionately pleaded with Mr President to stop security agencies from harassing and intimidating Nigerians especially those perceived as enemies of the administration. I also called on relevant security and anti-graft agencies, to follow due process in the ongoing fight against corruption in the country.
I had equally called on the leaders of the international community, like the President of the United States, Donald Trump, Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres and the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, to prevail on the present administration to respect the sanctity of human lives, uphold the fundamental human rights of Nigerians, stop the intimidation and harassment of innocent citizens; and to make sure that the ongoing fight against corruption is conducted according to the principles of fairness, equity and justice. I had decried a situation where personalities mainly from the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) arm of our party, the All Progressives Congress, are being selectively targeted for persecution in the guise of fighting corruption.
I dare say that the withdrawal of my police security aides and from other deserving Nigerians has become the modus operandi of this government in silencing the opposition. Recently, security aides of the President of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara were equally reduced. Those attached to Senators and House of Representatives members considered to be critical of the policies and programmes of the present administration are equally being recalled.

I also want to state that impunity in the country is moving from bad to worse as evidenced by the withdrawal of my security and my being marked for arrest and prosecution, simply because I have not ceased to speak up against acts of injustice, intimidation and harassment of Nigerians, since the inception of this government.
This plot against me shows that the Nigeria Police which is supposed to protect all Nigerians has become personalized and is being used to protect only those singing the praises of the present administration. This effectively shows that the last administration was more democratic and tolerant than the present one because, despite my incessant criticism of the Jonathan’s administration, he never ordered the withdrawal my police aides, as well as those of all opposition members now in government who were opposed to Jonathan and his government as at that time. This unwarranted action by the Government against me, I must say, is meant to expose me to grave danger and personal harm with the aim to permanently shut me up.
Nigerians had expected leaders in this administration to learn to tolerate criticism from the opposition as a common feature in any democratic setting. Take South Africa, for example, where a member of parliament and leader of the opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, Julius Malema, often criticizes the President of South Africa without his security aides being withdrawn or him being framed-up for arrest and prosecution.
I want to make it categorically clear, however, that no amount of intimidation, harassment and arrest will make me to close my eyes and mouth in the face of ongoing human rights violations and actions capable of truncating the nation’s democracy, being perpetrated by the present administration. I solemnly reiterate my resolve to pay the supreme sacrifice if that is what is required to ensure freedom, respect for human dignity and good governance in Nigeria. However, I want to use this opportunity to inform Nigerians that the present administration should be held responsible should any harm befall me.
Finally, I urge Nigerians to rise up in defence of democracy. I also urge the National Assembly not to relent in providing leadership to ensure the sustenance of our democracy. I equally call on Civil Society Organizations and labour unions not to gloss over glaring threats against the nation’s democracy. The time to speak up is now.”

Chelsea reportedly in pole position to sign Lewandowski.

• Chelsea are reportedly given clear path in the race for the Polish striker after Real Madrid end their interest
• The deal might cost as much as £88m
• The Blues continue to look for a striker amid Morata's exit rumours

According to the Sun, Chelsea are now in pole position to sign Bayer Munich's Robert Lewandowski, as Real Madrid pull out of the race. The outlet reveal that the Polish striker'smeeting with super-agent Pini Zahavi has been arranged in order to clear up what the future holds for the 29-year-old and it was revealed that Los Blancos won't agree to pay the reported £88m for the Bundesliga top goalscorer.
As it stands, Robert Lewandowski himself eyes Bayern exit, despite 4 successful seasons at the German hegemon. And, as French media outlet L’Equipe stated last month, Bayern are ready to accept an offer for Robert Lewandowski, if any club is ready to pay €100million+. The Bundesliga heavyweights have numerous times expressed their determination to keep the 29-year-old striker at the club, however, L’Equipe were stating the transfer chances would rise if an appropriate bid arrived.
From Chelsea's side, the interest might be a result of multiple factors. As it is understood, the main reason which backs the Blues' possible enquiry is an ambiguous situation with Alvaro Morata at Stamford Bridge. The Spaniardfailed to provide a needed level of display in his first Premier League season and, more importantly, has been linked with a summer move away.
In this regard, Juventus emerged as the most likely destination for the Spanish striker. According to Goal, the fee for Alvaro Morata has been set between Chelsea & Juventus, however, the Old Lady have decided to wait a little with the official approach.
However, Juve's director Beppe Marotta is not too positive over the 25-year-old's Binconeri return: "Morata always expressed sincere appreciation for Juventus and the city of Turin", he said. "But it was a very expensive transfer, soit’s practically impossible to get him back."
Nevertheless, the Blues' interest in Rober Lewandowski implies that the board still consider a proper replacement for Morata. The 29-year-old has scored in 40 goals in 47 gamesin all competitions this season and finished as the 2017/18 Bundesliga top scorer for the third time in his career with 29 goals in 30 games in the tournament.

FAYOSE IN BIG TROUBLE AS PRESIDENT BUHARI EXPOSE HIM – (FULL DETAILS) Fayose In Big Trouble as President Buhari Expose Him - (FULL DETAILS)

Latest report trending as the Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the forthrightness and integrity that characterised the people of Ekiti State has been lost under the current Governor of Ekiti State, Governor Ayodele Fayose.
He made the observation while hosting members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, South-West caucus at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari also noted that it was time for the APC to restore those lost values and return the state to its pride of place in the comity of states.
According to Buhari, “I know Ekiti fairly well and Ekiti people are well known for their forthrightness, candour and integrity.

“All of these values seem to have been lost and we must restore these values and return Ekiti to its pride of place in the comity of states.
“As we approach the 2019 elections, the return of Ekiti into the fold of progressive states is important as the election of July 2014 is going to be a key pointer to subsequent elections.
“On my part, let me reassure you that you can count on my support. But charity must begin at home. I urge Ekiti leaders and the leaders from the South-West to take this assignment seriously so that the APC can laugh last in the July election. It is only then that we will all be beneficiaries of victory.

INVESTIGATION: When Generals Turn Bandits: Inside the massive corruption in Nigeria’s security contracting

“…with the NSA involved I was fine with it. Afterall he is the chief accounting officer of Nigeria’s national security. If he wants to buy it at N100 billion who am I to say no?”
Two years ago, as the late evening sun cast the cityscape in brilliant colours and long shadows, the two of us dragged our chairs under the Ube tree behind the Abuja office of PREMIUM TIMES. The setting sun had left room walls radiating excess heat.
My guest was a contractor who was turning his back on the Nigerian defence contracting gang. It was the second day of a series of interviews that lasted several months. A tripod propped a camera in front of us as he squealed on his collaborators and described a particular corruption-ridden, hyper-inflated gunboats purchase contract he masterminded.
“Why did you not back out (when the government guy approached you to inflate the cost)”? I asked. “…for the sake of the country. For patriotism.”
“Well, you are talking about morals, ethics or considerations like that, but don’t forget that this is a state affair and the state does not embody morality neither does it embody those fine sentiments that people will wish to attribute to it,” he said.
“The state is a living thing of its own and our kind of state is a very predatory state. It thrives on power. Absolute power. And the basic source of capital accumulation for those running the state and their political matters is through primitive accumulation of capital, otherwise theft.”
My guest was describing an inflated contract in which the government was paying him to buy military boats that it already paid another contractor to supply.
Details of this and other tainted contracts are the focus of a coming PREMIUM TIMES investigative series that will reveal the greed and lack of patriotism of some of our country’s security chiefs, abuse of public trust and mindless theft of public funds that characterise defence procurements in Nigeria.
The Objective Situation
Contract inflation is a public sector term that translates to “treasonable stealing”. For a number of high-ranking government officials in Nigeria, stealing public funds through contract inflation is a way of life.
A number of past Nigerian officials are currently undergoing trials for alleged corruption-related offences linked to defence procurements.
Back to my guest. He told me he decided not to walk away from the fraudulent deal in question because it posed no immediate legal threat.
In fact, the deal, he said, got the backing of two National Security Advisers – Andrew Azazi and Sambo Dasuki.
“…with the NSA involved I was fine with it,” he said. “Afterall he is the chief accounting officer of Nigeria’s national security. If he wants to buy it at N100 billion who am I to say no?”
“If the public servant holding power decided to add to what I have submitted and steal it, what can I do about it?” he asked.
“The best I can do is to report it. But who am I reporting to? To him, the very person doing the thing (stealing)? So this is the objective situation.”
My guest’s narration that afternoon portrayed Nigeria’s defence contracting as a sector operating like a pure criminal gang with a well-formed sectioning of roles split between high-ranking government officials, contractors, and manufacturers.
Government officials with authority to initiate defence procurements award inflated contracts to contractors who ferry kickbacks back to them. Patronage, rather than performance, therefore, is the predominant deciding factor in awarding contracts and dissent is treated with grievous repercussion, insiders said.
“Here, I think it is too much asking of me to back out from a direct decision of the NSA,” my guest said. “It would have meant totally shutting the door forever as long as that NSA is in office.”
In subsequent parts of this series, we will give you details of the fraudulent gunboats contract my guest discussed. But for today, as part of this overview piece, we are reviewing Nigeria’s top defence scandals as well as ongoing court cases related to corruption in security procurements.
Top Defence Contract Scandals of Last Decade
My guest was a member of a criminal industry that has robbed Nigeria of trillions of Naira and an estimated 20, 000 deaths of both soldiers and civilians, according to Global Conflict Tracker by the Council on Foreign Relations. The fraudulent contracting processes have also cost the nation multiple international embarrassments.
According to a Transparency International report, a network of Nigerian military chiefs, politicians, and contractors worked together to steal more than N3.1 trillion through arms procurement contracts between 2008 and 2017.
The contract my guest was involved with would have seen himself, military chiefs and a couple of other agents steal N3 billion.
Here are some of the top defence and security procurement related scandals in recent memory.
1. Cash in bullion vans For Special Services?
Late 2014 to early 2015
Cash withdrawal from CBN using two bullion vans.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan authorised the withdrawal of N67.2 billion in cash from the Central Bank of Nigeria between November 2014 and February 2015 for “special services,” linked to defence and security operations. How the funds were used remain unclear.
2. Cash for Black market Arms in South Africa?
September 5, 2014
The South African border authorities seized $9.3 million belonging to Nigeria from two Nigerians and an Israeli who arrived the country in a private jet owned by a pastor, Ayo Oritsejafor. Customs officers discovered the money stashed in three suitcases after the suitcases were put through airport scanners. The Nigerian government later admitted the money was meant for the procurement of black market arms for the Nigerian military.
3. The Amit Sade contracts
October 6, 2008
On that day, Amit Sade, an Israeli contractor – who does not own any arms manufacturing business – working out of Nigeria was gifted a combined N5.2 billion contracts. The first was to deliver “assorted ammunition” at the cost of N2.1 billion. The other was to supply “20 units of K-38 twin hull boats” at the cost of N3.1 billion. He was paid 95 percent for the ammunition, he delivered a 63 per cent worth. On the K38 boats, he was paid 80 per cent, he delivered only 40 per cent. In the last decade, Mr. Sade, records show, was gifted another six heavy-weight military contracts worth N6.721 billion. He is alleged to have failed to deliver on any of them. He could not be reached to comment for this report. He did not reply emails sent to him, and his current location remains unknown.
4. NIA #IkoyiScandal – Defence cash stashed in defence chief’s wife’s apartment
April 12, 2017
Whistleblowers led the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to a house in upscale Ikoyi where $43.4 million was kept. The NIA director later claimed the money was meant for undisclosed special security and defence projects. Investigations are still going on and the real motive for keeping the fund in that location remained unclear.
5. Progress Limited “gift”
April 29, 2005 to October 19, 2010
The ministry of defence gifted two purchase contracts to Progress Limited for the supply of 42 units of BTR-3U Armoured Personnel Carriers and spare parts for the Nigerian Army without documented contract or agreements. There was no cost negotiation between the two parties. Two years later, 26 used APCs were delivered but they broke down almost immediately after they were deployed for peacekeeping operations in Sudan.
6. N2 billion grew wings from the office of the National Security Adviser
May 13, 2013
The Nigerian government released N1.35 billion to re-stock ammunition for OPERATION BOYONA, aimed at dislodging terrorist camps along the borders with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. Two months later, the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, requested and got approval for additional N2 billion. It does appear neither the Defence Headquarters nor the soldiers on the battlefield benefited from the second cash released to the NSA. The money is believed to have disappeared, an allegation Mr. Dasuki is denying.
7. “Urgent” N7 billion Boko Haram funds missing
January 2015
Nurudeen Mohammed, the then Minister of State Foreign Affairs, requested N7 billion to urgently fund operations of the Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin. The funds were released to the National Security Adviser. It is unclear how the money was used. Officials say most were traced to companies that had no business with the Task Force. One and a half billion naira was withdrawn in cash.
8. Santa NIMASA
September 3, 2014, to April 30, 2015
Between the seven months of September 2014 to April 2015, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency paid out N8.5 billion to the Joint Task Force Operation Pulo Shield – the military unit fighting insurgency in the Niger Delta. Most of the funds were described as operation enhancers.
Over 70 per cent of the funds (N6.2 billion) were converted to US dollars and handed over to an unknown “Private Citizen”. No one also knows what happened to the balance — N2.3 billion.
9. The Shaldag contracts
2010
The Shaldag contract is one of the deals that paved the way for a regime of kleptocracy in the Nigerian Defence sector, and the emergence of a gang that has grown to be more powerful than elected regimes.
The 2010 deal saw an Israeli shipbuilder, Israeli Shipyards, win a $25 million contract to supply Nigerian Navy with two fast assault boats. Their market value at the time was estimated to be $5 million each.
Nigeria, therefore, lost $15 million in the deal. It is unclear how the $15 million excess was shared between everyone involved, but the Israeli police have established that the middleman, Amit Sade, received $1.47 million in what is now termed brokerage fee. Three people are facing trial in Israel over this deal.
When Generals become bandits — List of Nigerian Military Generals Standing Trial For Corruption
Military Generals in Nigeria form an important part of the contracting gang stealing from the country through defence and security contracting. In July 2016, an investigative committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari, shortly after entering office in 2015, released a report indicting 18 senior military officials, 12 retired and serving government officials, and 24 CEOs. The panel recommended further investigation and prosecution of the indicted individuals.
In February 2016, the Nigerian Army announced that it handed over 12 senior officers to the EFCC for their alleged involvement in arms scandal. The army did not name them but said they included three serving major generals, and one retired, three brigadier generals, four colonels and one lieutenant colonel.
“We have charged some people to court, but the investigation into others has not closed,” the EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said.
Here are some of the senior military officers indicted by the panel in its report as well as those publicly known to be undergoing trial.
Lieutenant Colonel Sambo Dasuki, retired:Although official banditry in Nigeria’s defence and security contracting predates and goes beyond — the former National Security Adviser, he is the highest-ranking government official held. He was arrested on December 1, 2015, by officers of the State Security Service (SSS) over the utilisation of $2 billion meant for buying arms for the military.
In the scheme, high ranking members of the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party, as well as other members and friends of the government, set up companies and approached the NSA for contracts. As it was later found out, the contractors simply walked away with the funds while soldiers at the battlefront wrestled Boko Haram with bare fist. Prosecutors claim the fund were diverted fund the party’s campaigns in the 2015 elections.
A Presidential panel was later set up to investigate defence and security procurements dating back a decade. The committee indicted Mr. Dasuki and other individuals.
He has been in detention since his arrest despite bails by four High Court judges in Nigeria and an ECOWAS Court.
Lieutenant General Azubuike Ihejirika, retired:Mr. Ihejirika retired from the army in January 2014 after serving as Chief of Army Staff for four years. He was appointed Chief of Army Staff on September 8, 2010, by President Goodluck Jonathan. Seven months after his retirement, Stephen Davis, an Australian negotiator who was working for the Nigerian government as a go-between in the Boko Haram war called out Ihejirika, as well as Ali Sheriff, a former governor of Borno state, as the “sponsors” of Boko Haram.
Nigeria’s State Security Service later claimed they found Mr. Ihejirika to be innocent.
Mr. Ihejirika was indicted by the DasukiGate Panel for using family members and fronts to procure arms contract. Twenty months after the indictment, the EFCC invited him for questioning. As at the time of this reporting, he has not been charged.
Lieutenant General Kenneth TJ Minimah, retired:Mr. Minimah took over from Mr. Ihejirika as Chief of Army Staff and handed over to the incumbent, Tukur Buratai.
On June 30, 2017, an Abuja High Court froze his accounts after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission accused him and a company, Stoke Synergy Nigeria Limited, of stealing N13.6 billion from the Nigerian Army.
The EFCC claims Mr. Minimah has refunded N1.7 billion.
Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh, retired: Mr. Badeh was the immediate past chief of defence staff.
The EFCC is accusing him of stealing N3.9 billion from Nigeria during his tenure.
“He allegedly abused his office as Chief of Defence Staff by using the dollar equivalent of the sum of N1.4billion removed from the accounts of the Nigerian Air Force to purchase properties in choice areas of Abuja between January and December 2013,” the EFCC claimed in a statement.
Mr. Badeh and his family company, Iyalikam Nigeria Limited, are currently standing trial for the “theft” of N3.97 billion Nigeria’s defence and security funds.
Major General Emmanuel J Atewe, retired: A former Commander JTF Op PULO SHIELD is standing trial for allegedly “stealing” about N8.5 billion defence and security funds the operations received from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). Mr. Atewe is charged alongside a former NIMASA boss, Patrick Akpobolokemi, and two other staff of the agency: Kime Engonzu and Josephine Otuaga.
An Abuja businessman, Arinze Nkem, on Monday, June 19, 2017, told an Abuja High Court that the General regularly paid huge sums into his bank account with instructions to convert the remittances to US Dollars and redistribute.
“I bought a guest house for JTF, Operation Pulo Shield for N170m upon instruction by Atewe,” Mr. Nkem told the court. “I once paid the sum of N297m to a company called CISCO Nobot Limited. I also paid N99m to Ocean Gaz Limited and another N88m to Lord Fem Nigeria Limited, which all belong to him( Atewe).”
Air Vice Marshall Tony Omenyi, retired: Mr. Omenyi and his company, Huzee Nigeria Limited, are standing trial for allegedly stealing N136 million defence and security funds. He was formerly a Managing Director of Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services Limited (AETSL), a company owned by the Nigeria Air Force. His strategy was simple. According to court proceedings, he would cause his office to award contracts to Sky Experts who subsequently will forward the money to Mr. Omenyi’s company, Huzee ltd.
Mr. Omenyi claimed the monies were “refund of loans given to Sky Experts,” indicating a further breach of a constitutional code of conduct.
Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, retired: A former Chief of Air Staff is standing trial for conspiracy, stealing, money laundering, concealing of proceeds of crime and converting N18 billion belonging to the Nigerian Air Force, NAF, to personal use.
Mr. Amosu is being prosecuted alongside two other high ranking colleagues: Air Vice Marshal Jacob Bola Adigun, a former Director of Finance to NAF and Air Commodore Gbadebo Owodunni Olugbenga, a former Deputy Director of Finance NAF.
Their corruption scheme was similar to others in Nigeria’s defence contracting industry. NIMASA paid NAF’s N3 billion to NAF’s Special Emergency Operation Account with Zenith Bank Plc. Other sources paid N15 billion. The money was then forwarded to five companies: Right Options Oil & Gas Limited, Judah Oil Limited, Delfina Oil & Gas, McAllan Oil & Gas Limited and Lebol Oil & Gas Limited.
These are Bureau de Changes, not oil companies as their names suggests and an insider, Mr. Adigun, was an opening director at Delfina Oil & Gas and McAllan Oil & Gas.
These FX companies converted the funds into US dollars and returned to Mr. Adigun and Mr. Olugbenga. Delfina Oil & Gas and McAllan Oil & Gas Limited paid a chunk of what went through them directly to Solomon Enterprises, a company owned by Mr. Amosu, the EFCC claimed in court.
The three military chiefs finally used the funds to buy properties in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. Mr. Amosu’s wife, Omolara, one of the directors of St. Solomon HealthCare, also received N95 million from the largesse.
Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, retired: A former Chief of Naval Staff, is facing trial alongside Rear Admiral Bala Mshelia, Rear Admiral Shehu Ahmadu (all retired) and Habor Bay International Limited.
The Nigerian Navy had no need for the house and had no plans to buy it. There was no budget for it. Apparently, a company owned by Mr. Jibrin’s family, Habor Bay International Limited, needed it. The three Naval chiefs worked out a plan and pulled N600 million from the account of Naval Engineering Services to pay for a property at Plot No. 2717 Cadastral A06, Maitama, Abuja.
The property’s documentation shows Habor Bay International Limited as the buyer and owner even though the Nigerian Navy paid. Essentially, the former naval chief used Nigerian Navy resources to illegally gift himself a N600 million property.
Others high ranking officials recommended for prosecution over alleged corruption in security procurement include:
Major General JAH Ewansiha, retired: Mr. Ewansiha served as the Chief of Training and Operations in the Army.
Major General Ugo Buzugbe, retired: – former COPP(A)
Major General ER Chioba (Rtd) – former DG DICON
Major General AI Muraina (Rtd) – former CAB(A)
Major General DD Kitchener (Rtd)- former COLOG
Brigadier General DM Onoyiveta – former Chief Of Staff to Chief Of Army Staff
